Persatuan Syukur Penyayang Pulau Pinang is a non-profit organisation based in Jalan Ayer Itam, Georgetown Penang. At present, some of the elderly residents are independent and able to take care of themselves, some have limited mobility, while others are frail or bedridden with disabilities and also elderly with mild mental illness.
In addition to providing a shelter where the homeless elderly can feel safe, comfortable and cared for, we are working towards obtaining our own residential home, in a place they can call Home in their old age and stay both physically and mentally healthy.
The operation and maintenance of the Home and continuation of compassionate care rely on the generous contributions from the society – whether in kind, donation or voluntary services. To let us continue with the journey, we appeal for help from the society and government organisations at large to work hand-in-hand with us to offer your love and become a bridge for funding – so that together, we can help more old folks who are homeless and needy.
The two successive floods made it necessary for us to relocate. This is not only to prevent the persecution of the flood again, is the safety of the elderly too.
Persatuan Syukur Penyayang Pulau Pinang formerly known by Gan En Zhi Jia Berhad, was relocated to 30, Lengkok P.Ramlee, Penang for 9 years. In September 2017, following strong winds and heavy rain for more than 15 hours, the residential area at Jalan P. Ramlee became one of the worst-hit flash flood areas in Penang. The facilities of Gan En Zhi Jia were destroyed and its elderly residents, some of whom bedridden, were submerged in chest-high floodwaters and had to be evacuated to a temporary shelter. The massive flash floods not only severely crippled the daily lives of the residents, the home was also hit with major financial loss.
